Bericht November 17, 2009 PHILIPS ANNOUNCES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN IMAGING SYSTEMS INDUSTRIAL CAMPUS IN SUZHOU, CHINA • The combined R&D and manufacturing facility will expand Philips’ presence in China to serve this high-growth healthcare market, building on previous investments. • EUR 36 million (USD 54 million) investment in the Suzhou campus strengthens Philips’ imaging systems portfolio, building Philips’ leadership position in early diagnostics for disease prevention Suzhou, China – Royal Philips Electronics today announced the establishment of an Industrial Campus for imaging systems in China, in an MOU signing ceremony with the Suzhou Municipal Government. With a total investment of EUR 36 million (USD 54 million) committed to its development in the next five years, the Philips campus will cover a total land space of 62000 m2 and will be located in the Suzhou Industrial Park. The facility will employ 500 people and will be completed by mid-2012. The campus will have integrated facilities of R&D, manufacturing, assembly and sourcing in one site. The state-of-the-art R&D center will employ a substantial number of R&D engineers and will develop imaging equipment for the Chinese market, adapted to the requirements of local hospitals. The manufacturing facility will produce 64-slice CT and 1.5T MR machines, which are mainstream imaging systems equipment in most of China’s provincial and city level hospitals, as well as X-Ray equipment for mid-sized hospitals. Hosting the ceremony in Suzhou, Mr. Steve Rusckowski, Executive Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Philips Healthcare said, “This investment will further enhance our presence in healthcare in China, adding to our joint venture with Neusoft and the recently acquired company, Shenzhen Goldway.
