Appeal court: minimum wage German postal sector void
Amsterdam, Berlin, Ratingen, 18 December 2008 – Today the Higher Administrative court of Berlin-Brandenburg ruled that the postal minimum wage of € 9.80 is contrary to prevailing constitutional law and therefore is not binding for TNT Post in Germany. This ruling confirms the decision of the Berlin Administrative Court on 7 March 2008.
TNT has always been in favour of fair minimum wage arrangements and is therefore pleased with the outcome of this court case. The German State is expected not to accept this decision as a final ruling. Today’s decision does not end the uncertainty over the minimum wage situation on the German postal market.
TNT continues to apply the labour conditions, including a fair minimum wage, as agreed with the Christian Postal Services and Telecommunication Union (CGTP).
