Fortis nominates Filip Dierckx as new CEO

Today, the Fortis Board of Directors has decided unanimously to nominate Filip Dierckx as the new CEO of Fortis, succeeding Herman Verwilst. He will formally be appointed CEO after approval by a general shareholder meeting to be announced in due course. As of today and up until this time, Filip has been granted full CEO authority.
“Given his vast experience and knowledge of the company, we’re happy that Filip has accepted this challenging task,” explains Maurice Lippens, Chairman of the Fortis Board of Directors. “The Board fully supports Filip and the Executive team to implement the capital plan, integrate ABN AMRO and restore trust and confidence in the company.”
Filip Dierckx (52) is member of the Fortis Executive Committee and Chairman of the Fortis Bank Executive Board since 1st January 2008. He has a wide experience in both international and domestic banking and is, in the opinion of the board and based on an internal and external executive search, the best person to lead Fortis through the challenging times facing the entire financial industry.
The board wishes to thank Herman Verwilst, for having led Fortis through this difficult transition period. Herman Verwilst, who will stay on as a non-executive director stated: “I am delighted for Filip and, having worked closely with him for years, I am convinced that he has all the leadership qualities and competencies to lead Fortis in these challenging times. He knows the business, the management, teams and the staff very well and can take Fortis forward in this difficult period.”
