Fortis, RBS en Santander ( hierna “de Banken”) bevestigen dat zij een Acquisitievoorstel voor LaSalle Bank hebben ingediend bij ABN AMRO op 5 mei 2007. Dit voorstel is op 6 mei verworpen. De Banken waren van mening dat hun voorstel een superieur voorstel was vergeleken met de voorwaarden van het contract tussen ABN AMRO en Bank of America. De voorgestelde prijs voor LaSalle Bank in het bijzonder was aanzienlijk hoger dan het bod van Bank of America en zou geleid hebben tot een openbaar bod van de Banken voor ABN AMRO onder dezelfde voorwaarden als aangekondigd op 25 april 2007.
De Banken onthouden zich op dit moment van verder commentaar.
